Dr. Thurlow cultivates a safe, open and empathic environment for people to examine their inner experiences. The most effective psychotherapy occurs when clients step completely outside of their problems and silently observe them. This is accomplished by shifting the consciousness to “the witness position” where we can observe our own thinking, feeling and behavior from a neutral perspective without judgment.
Frequently, the product of non-judgmental self-observation is insight.
People are released from identification with their problems and gain heightened awareness of their psychological or emotional functioning. With deeper self-knowledge comes renewed sense of well-being and a willingness to pursue even deeper and more hidden patterns and beliefs.
With each new psychological discovery the person is rewarded with fresh meaning and value in life. Relationships become richer and more nuanced. Access to higher principles such as love, forgiveness, and compassion become easier as the person is able to forgive self and others. People choose to create more meaningful relationships with others as a reflection of their deeper self-understanding.
